Then I tried to burn another .ISO file using the software provided by dell, it appeared as if the DVD was burnt successfully, however when I checked the disc it was empty. Right-click My Computer Click on Manage On the left side click on Disk Management On the right side, find your optical drive and make sure that the drive letter it wants to use is not being used by another drive or maybe your card reader. When trying to reinstall the hardware DVD-ROM Windows recognizes the drive (though sometimes simply label it as "CD-ROM drive"), but then says something went wrong - with from what I understand is a default error message (39), claiming the driver has become corrupt
If you are receiving this Code 39 error and your CD or DVD drive is missing and has a yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager, I hope this information is useful. I uninstalled the drive from Device Manager, rebooted the computer, and the problem remained, so obviously it appeared to be a registry issue that I would have to solve

I can hear the drive itself run whenever i place a cd inside so it's spinning it's just the drive is non existent on my computer.I ran regestriy editor to delete lower and upper filter files but upon reboot it didn't do anything, just in case i ran it in safe mode to see if that made any difference. We would do a system restore and it would be fixed until we had to reboot again...then the drive would disappear again along with the printer driver! Thank you SOOOO much for this fix
